Tell us about your journey to Corpay One.

I joined Corpay One in April 2021, and was really intrigued by what the team was doing, as lot of my career was in finance and SaaS sales. I was excited to work with small business owners, especially knowing that a lot of the time they have to find a product that fills in certain gaps, for example, with accounts payable. Knowing that Corpay One was engineering a project that would definitely help that sector of business owners really interested me, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy!

Why do you think small business owners turn to platforms like Corpay One?

I think small businesses can sometimes get lost in the fold, because they’re either not big enough or too big for other platforms; it can feel like those odd years in middle school. Corpay One offers a platform that can help those small businesses get to the next level—where they’re able to grow comfortably. We can be whatever a customer needs us to be. Does your business want a platform for just bill pay? We can do that! Corpay One can save you time in those areas, so you can spend the rest of your time growing another aspect of your business.

Another tool we offer is the Corpay One Mastercard®. When things are uncertain, like they have been the past couple of years, it helps to have the cushion the card can provide, since businesses can, for instance, use the card to fund their next big project, and still use liquid cash for payroll.

What does being customer-centric mean to you?

Being customer-centric means partnering with customers and building a rapport, rather than just trying to sell them something. Businesses will need to pay bills regardless, but how they pay those bills is where we come in. We partner with SMBs, design a process for them, and make things more streamlined. At the end of the day, I want to be part of their team, to help get them where they want to be.

When you demo Corpay One, what do you like to know about prospective customers or their businesses?

I want to know what their process looks like and what their pain points are. A question I like to ask is “If I was a genie in a bottle, what would your first ask be?” You have to get down to what’s important to the customer.

What do you think prospective customers are looking for on our platform?

A lot of people use our approval and workflow processes. With Corpay One, users can make rules for different people, vendors, amounts and approvals, and there’s flexibility to quickly make changes if, for example, someone is out on vacation. Plus, you can automate those systems. One customer I spoke with had a three day process to write out, approve and mail checks. I was able to say “Let me help you,” and show her our approval process workflows to save her a lot of time.

What do you like about working at Corpay One?

I like that I’m able to truly partner with customers and build rapport with them. Often, people hesitate to say “Something’s wrong with my process.” Sometimes, it takes being vulnerable to say “I need some help.” I’m able to help them, which is a win-win: I’ve got a product that can solve things for you, and…it’s cost-effective. That’s another benefit to Corpay One - our platform has no subscription fee. A common question I hear is “How much will it cost each month?” I sometimes have to say “Sit down, are you sitting? Because the cost of the platform is no cost.”

Tell us more about Monica - what’s something people might not know about you?

I believe that one of my gifts is networking and connecting people. I also am an author; I co-authored a book with some other women that came out in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. My chapter is called My Two Cents, because I think everybody should put in their two cents - you shouldn’t feel you have to be quiet or fade into the background. A lot of times, especially we as women, can do that in different arenas. Being able to say “I just needed to let you know, that hurt my feelings” is important. You don’t have to be confrontational, but I’m at least going to give you my two cents!
